Adult and community education (ACE) refers to the many and varied non-formal learning activities that adults engage in.

Familiar examples of ACE programs and activities include the popular Adult Education program, and the resources and support provided by the state’s libraries and online access centres.

ACE also includes the learning opportunities offered by community houses, third age learning providers, museums and art galleries, religious groups, cultural organisations, special interest groups and local community organisations.

• The Adult and Community Eduction Grants Program provides funding for Tasmanian community organisations to develop, promote and deliver adult learning programs.
   
• Adult Learners' Week is a national event run in each state and territory during September. Adult learning is celebrated and promoted through community events funded by a program of small grants and the adult learning awards program.
   
• The annual Adult and Community Education Conference brings together members of Tasmania’s broad-ranging ACE sector. The third ACE conference will be held in Launceston on Wednesday 15 November 2006.
   
• Adult and Community Education Policy
  Released in September 2004, an initiative of Tasmania: A State of Learning, the policy represents the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to ACE.
   
• The Adult Learning Tasmania Directory is an online listing of ACE providers in Tasmania. All organisations that offer learning opportunities to adults are invited to enter their details on this website.
   
• The national Ministerial Declaration on Adult Community Education was released in August 2002.
